Graphmatica Help - Opening an Existing Graph Document

To open a previously saved set of graphs, choose Open from the File menu (or the toolbar). This will display the standard dialog box for selecting files, with the default extension of .gr. In addition, you will notice an extra checkbox on the right hand side of the dialog, Merge file with current graphs. When this box is not checked (the default), the file is loaded into a new document and the current document is closed (you may be asked if you want to save it first).

When you do check this box, Graphmatica will merge the contents of the file with the current graphs. Merging files is an inexact process, but this is approximately what will happen:

The equations loaded from the file get added to the front of the redraw queue. If there are more than 25 equations total in the file and in memory, the oldest ones in memory will be deleted to make room in the queue.
If the file being loaded was saved with setup information, the grid, graph paper, and other document-specific properties will be set to the values in the file. (However, in general settings which are the same as the "factory defaults" will not be recorded in the file, so the current setting in memory will remain in effect.)
Labels and annotations in the file override those already in memory.
The document keeps its original name

You can also start Graphmatica with an existing ".gr" file by double-clicking on it in Explorer or Finder. Finally, you can drag and drop files from Explorer windows onto Graphmatica to open them as well.
